My Words by Dominic Crescente 20160317 Books

I had wanted to read this book because I know the writer. In his book he mentions the library in his school, this is where I know him from. I was surprised to see he wrote a book because I never knew he was into writing and expressing himself. So I supported him and grabbed a copy and read it. I liked the book, even as an outsider I think the book has a strong appeal to a young adult audience and had a nice pace. This is a work of non-fiction, and while that helps the story, I think it also hinders it a bit. Dom is very close to the story, and what may be crystal clear in his mind, sometimes is not so clear on the page. Some scenes lack detail, and characters lack description. The story is told in a very linear fashion, and the author never seems to deviate or, for that matter, embellish anything. On one hand the bare bones style is inviting and you can get right into it, but on the other hand you are left wanting and wondering about the people and events that unfold. All in all, I think Mr. Crescente has a knack for storytelling and he needs to keep writing because there is something definitely worthwhile in his prose.

My Words by Dominic Crescente 20160317 Books Reviews

As a parent of two boys I felt Dom's pain of his tribulations during high school years. This should be a must read for children who are entering high school. It's a scary transition from middle school and not every child fits in right away. Kudos to Dom for writing about his ups and downs of those exciting and sometimes painful years.
While reading his "words", i felt encapsulated in each smoothly flowing sentence. This book makes you feel as though you are actually present in each setting, living through every moment flawlessly detailed. This must-read is a great addition to every personal library.
This is a must read for parents of teen boys and for teen boys themselves. It really exposes what goes through a boys mind while he navigates his ever changing life from boy to man. The author nailed it! I wish I had read this book when my son was still young. I would have had a much better understanding of what was truly going on in his mind.
