What would you do if you had the chance to face your high school bully?

Sticks and stones may break my bones, but my past does not define me.

High School—one of the worst times in my life. I was “that” girl, the one everyone made fun of. The outcast. Band geek. Nerd.

That’s all changed, and so have I. Jane Sharp vanished into thin air years ago; I go by Reese Kennedy now. But Reese isn’t the one invited to the Meadow High School Class of 2005 reunion next month. I am. So I need a plan.

I have to be honest...I bought the book because I was fascinated with the cover. It drew my attention instantly. Rachael is a new author to me. I was actually very satisfied with this story. Sometimes it's nice to take a break from all the sex in the other romances I read. I consider this story between Reece(Jane) and Hunter (Tyler) a breath of fresh air. I think the concept of this story is very relatable to most. We all have had those certain people in high school that can either be your best friend or make your life a living hell. I've felt like this personally, and I felt that this story put that in perspective for me. I would definitely recommend this story. I wish it would have been a bit longer but overall it was great!

Sticks Stones edition by Rachael Brownell Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Reese Kennedy has a dilemma. Her ten-year high school reunion is coming up. While her high school years were some of the worst times of her life, she made the decision to completely change her life and rise above the bullying she faced to run a successful real estate business. The dilemma lies in the fact that Reese wasn’t invited to the reunion, Jane Sharp was . . . and Reese hasn’t been Jane in a very long time.

Needing to prove her successful, Reese needs s plan. When her best friend Ireland suggests hiring a fake fiancé to escort her to the reunion, Jane reluctantly goes along with the scheme. When Hunter Drake walks in, sparks fly, and Reese knows she has bitten off more than she can chew.

Hunter Drake needs a job after a scandal in the corporate world causes him to lose his. When a friend offers him a position as an escort, Hunter agrees. When he meets the client he is supposed to be working with, he realizes his past has just caught up with him. While she doesn’t recognize him, he certainly recognizes her and instantly realizes why her ten-year reunion is such a big deal for her. How? Why Hunter, whose real name is Tyler Small, happened to date the girl who made his date’s life a living nightmare all through their high school years. And now, he finds himself wanting a relationship with the one person that both his past and present identities will keep him from having.

Rachael Brownell did an amazing job creating a unique cast of characters. While high school reunions plague all of us, for Reese it is a way to truly put her painful past behind her. She is an amazingly strong character with true depth. The author did a fantastic job of having the readers truly feel and experience the pain she felt and had to overcome from being bullied throughout school.

Hunter is a true enigma. While in high school he was popular, but fought against the norms of his set by standing up for what he believed in. I enjoyed his struggles in the book of trying to be the man he wants to be and not the one society dictates. He knows coming clean with Reese about his identity is a must to have any chance at a real relationship with her, but also knows that the support his escort identity can give to her at the reunion will help her face and deal with her past.

This book was well written and much deeper than I expected. The plot has some truly interesting twists that kept me involved in the story and wanting to keep moving on to the next chapter!

4.5 stars
This is an absorbing story which sensitively deals with the emotional effects of bullying and it’s aftermath on those involved….The plot centers on Reese, a beautiful and successful Estate Realtor who was a victim of High School bullying and Hunter a gorgeous, male escort whose services she engages in an attempt to exact some harmless revenge on her tormentors… but the best laid plans have a way of going awry and secrets, misunderstandings and unexpected consequences endanger everything that Reese has fought so hard to escape..

Told from the perspective of Reese and Hunter their inner narrative provides a window into the reality of their situation and their true feelings….Reese and Hunter are a fascinating couple; in so many ways they seem a perfect match but there are obstacles to overcome some of which, frustratingly, could have been avoided if only Hunter had been more honest in the beginning..
The supporting characters are also interesting and well written I would love to read more about Paul (Hunter’s boss) and Ireland (Reese’s scheming best friend)..

This was difficult reading in parts due to the subject matter but it was dealt with positively and overall there was a feel good factor that shone through the angst and ensured this was above all else an engaging love story….I received a copy of this book through the Quirky Blind Date with a Book.
No one likes a bully. You always hope they grow up to be better people. Chances are if you aren't the one being bullied you don't think about the bully or the kid being bullied, don't want to draw attention to yourself. Reese was ruthlessly bullied in high school. She graduated, moved as far away as she could, and then reinvented herself. Fast forward to her 10 year reunion. She wants to show her bully that she didn't destroy her. She wants to hire herself a fiance for the weekend. Enter Hunter. They have chemistry, but he has a secret. This book was such a good read!
My first book by this author & I enjoyed it. It was a great book about overcoming your past & moving on.
This was a ok read.
I really loved this story. Reese has her demons that she has battled, and overcome. Until the 10 year school reunion. Has she really overcome said demons? My 10 year reunion was also in 2015, which is the year this book takes place. So I related to Reese a lot! I however skipped mine, I didn't talk to them then, why would I now. This story was full of anxiety, pain, heartbreak, love and mixed feelings. Most of us can relate to Reese in many ways. I would recommend this to anyone how has had to overcome their past, anyone who was bullied, and heck even the bullies! Your words can hurt.
Reese (Jane) and Hunter's (Tyler) story was a sweet story. After being bullied through out high school, Reese tried to deal with the emotional scars by reinventing herself. She moved, changed her name and has become a beautiful, confident and successful business owner. When it is time to return home to attend her high school reunion she hires and escort to be her fake fiancé. Hunter has baggage of his own. He lost his job and can't afford not to take the escort job attending the reunion with Reese. Their chemistry is undeniable, but Hunter has his own secrets that may ruin any chance with Reese. Fun read.
